What is Tiganokinisi?

Tiganokinisi is an educational, environmental program for the collection of used cooking oils that is successfully implemented in more than 400 schools in Cyprus. Through Frying Motor we convert frying oil from waste to biodiesel and provide resources for environmental education activities and support of environmental infrastructure for our schools and students throughout Cyprus.

‘Tiganokinisi’ is under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Culture, in cooperation with the Pedagogical Institute of Cyprus and the non-government Organization AKTI – Project and Research Center.

Tiganokinisi is an innovative approach to environmental education, which includes hands-on activities and teaching, hands-on learning and the implementation of environmentally friendly practices. The used cooking oil is the means for the sustainability of the program and schools: Used cooking oil is recycled and the money earned is used to apply green technologies in order to achieve the principle of sustainable school.

Furthermore, the involvement of young people: unlike adults, children and youth have not set habits, so any interventions that promote more environmentally conscious behaviors are more easily accepted. In addition, young people act as agents of change in society and are able to pass on environmentally conscious habits to their families and friends.
