Aristides Potamitis Monument

Historical Monuments

Aristides Potamitis took over the presidency of the Community of Pissouri after elections in 1978 and remained in the position until 2001.

He remained at the helm of our Community for twenty consecutive years, leaving good memories and accomplishing remarkable work. Although relatively uneducated, he managed to rule the Community of Pissouri very successfully and in a consensual way, accepted by the whole Community. He had a remarkable way of approaching and behaving towards the inhabitants of the village who cherished him.

Before assuming the Presidency of the Community, the late Aristides was one of the leading executives in the village and participated in most committees such as the SEAP. , the Improvement Council, the Ecclesiastical Committee, the Committee of the Irrigation Department and others.

During his tenure as mayor of Pissouri, important infrastructure and development projects were carried out in the village, such as the renovation and beautification of the central square of the village (inaugurated by President George Vassiliou), the construction of the community amphitheater and the kindergarten , the construction of the roads of Koiladon, Melanta, Makedonias and others as well as the water supply of the community with the great governmental work of Mamonia, which took place during his days.

What characterized the late Aristides Potamitis was his determination in the execution of the various works. When he noticed that there was bureaucracy and obstruction from the various government departments in the promotion of some projects, he reacted and took the initiative himself in order for the projects to be executed without delays and time-consuming procedures. This method proved to be effective for many projects that would still be awaiting execution if the village headman did not act in this way.

As a human being, the late Aristides was very happy, entertaining and very hospitable for this and was highly esteemed by both the residents of the community and the people of the provincial administration, who always took into account and respected his views and suggestions. This was one of the main reasons why most of the projects in Pissouri were performed during his day.

He died at the age of 72. In honor of Aristides Potamitis, the community of Pissouri built a relief bust of him at the entrance of the community amphitheater.
